Development challenges in countries of the south are numerous, varied and complex. However, the majority of these countries  have enormous potential and opportunities to ensure equitable and durable socio-economic development for the wellbeing of their people. Civil participation in the development of Cameroon,  at the stage it has currently reached, has already existed for more than 40 years. It was adapted throughout the years, in order to respond to the political context and improve its effectiveness. We can deduce that the nineties were “the golden age” of socio-political development, considering that it was the era of democracy as well as the liberalization of communication and association.

At the time, several Cameroonian engineers were working to meet the country's infrastructure needs. Cameroonian engineering consulting firms, which are still quite active today, saw, at that time, a strong growth of their activities. The engineering community of Cameroon was opening itself to the world. Some of their projects were successful, while others did not achieve the expected results. Would this be because the involvement of the recipients in this kind of project is either weak or nonexistent? We are unable to answer this question, because the success of a development project depends on several factors.

However, at Engineer without Borders Cameroon, we are aware of the role played by beneficiary groups, and recognize their contribution in devising and implementing the development projects. They have the primary responsibility of identifying their needs. Our commitment is to provide them with technical support in order to solve the problems they are facing. This is the strength of our organization.

Then why a website for our organization? We believe, without a shadow of a doubt, that a website must be testimony to a useful, dynamic, flexible and limitless communication. We wish it to be a gateway open to the world, which can raise awareness of the capacities which the engineers of our organization can offer.
